For Parents....

Please click on the "Introduction to Our Classroom" tab to find out more about Edmodo and the Flipped Classroom.

Parent "Assignment":  In a million words or less, tell me about your student. It can be in a narrative, just bullet points, a few sentences, or a novel. You can even write in your native language. This is just for me to understand your child better and to quickly get to know him/her. I will use the information to find ways to engage him in learning in a style of how he learns best. It will be confidential. It doesn't need to be perfect--I'm not grading what you give me. :o) Please turn this in to me as soon as possible- in an envelope, in an email,  on a sticky note, or a link to a website about him. Thank you for doing this! I know your life is busy especially at this time of year. I consider parents to be the child's first and best teacher. I hope to be a partner in providing the best education that is possible.

Welcome to Sixth Grade Social Studies and Science
Miss King's Class

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to have your son/daughter in my class this year. It is going to be a great year of learning! It is also going to be a year of many changes. There is A LOT of information that you will need to be aware of in order to insure that your son/daughter has the best possible experience in my class. Instead of giving you a large stack of papers to read, I have opted to put the information online. I have set up a blog for the class at www.elkmeadowssocialstudies6th.blogpot.com.
I'm also asking that each of you fill out a short questionnaire about your son/daughter using a Google form. There will be a link to the form on the blog page. Thank you in advance for taking the time to do this especially because the beginning of the school year is such a busy time. Please stay in contact with me and let me know of ANYTHING that I can do to help your child be successful. I can be reached before and after school at 801-446-3200. My email is sandra.king@jordandistrict.org.
If you need to visit with me in person, please make an appointment. I am more than happy to talk with you, but an appointment insures that I can make time for you to discuss any of your concerns.
I hope the information online is helpful to you. Thank you for taking the time to review the information.

Sincerely,

Ms. Sandy King

A Sneak Peek....

Here's a sneak peek at our classroom. It's not totally set up, but it will give you an idea of what our classroom is like. The video is far from perfect. I'm just learning how to use the iPad and a lot of other things. I made a big mistake in the video. Can you find it? I could have done some editing, but this time I chose to just leave it because I want you to see my learning throughout the year too. :o}

First Day of School

Our "First Day" of class won't be spent going over rules. We need to get busy learning! Plus, there was a murder and you need to solve the case!

Here are some of the clues for solving the mystery:
  • When the elevator man saw Mr. Kelley, Mr. Kelley was bleeding slightly, but he did not seem too badly hurt.
  • Mr. Kelley had destroyed Mr. Jones' business by stealing all of his customers.
  • The incident occurred in an urban neighborhood, the type where many violent acts occur.
  • Mr. Kelley's body was found in the park.
  • The elevator man went off duty at 12:30 a.m.
  • Police were unable to locate Mr. Scott after the murder.
  • Miss Smith said that the police don't care about the spread of illegal drugs.
  • The elevator man said that Miss Smith was in the lobby of the apartment building when he went off duty.
  • Mr. Kelley had been dead for one hour when his body was found, according to a medical expert working with police.
  • The bullet taken from Mr. Kelley's thigh matched the gun owned by Mr. Jones.
  • Mr. Kelley's bloodstains were found in Mr. Scott's car.
  • Miss Smith saw Mr. Kelly go to Mr. Jones apartment building at 11:55 p.m.
  • The elevator man was twice convicted for DWI.
  • Mr. Jones had told Mr. Kelley that he was going to kill him.
  • The knife found in Miss Smith's yard had Mr. Scott's fingerprints on it.
  • Miss Smith said that nobody left the apartment building between 12:25 a.m. and 12:45 a.m.
  • An empty crack vial was found outside the apartment house.
Can YOU solve this mystery?
